How old should my baby be for a newborn session?
The ideal time a newborn session takes place is when your newborn is 5-14 days old. Newborn babies tend to sleep very well and are able to be curled up in your hands or placed in perfectly sized baskets with ease over older babies. While babies of all ages are photographed at various milestones, I can say that most babies older than 14 days old just don’t love the newborn experience quite as well. There are exceptions, of course, and I am always open to discuss what options you will have to create a similar look.
When should I schedule our newborn appointment?
While you are pregnant, you will want to schedule your newborn session to take place about a week after your due date. If in the event your baby comes a little early, just let me know and I will reschedule your appointment as necessary.
Where will our newborn session take place?
Your newborn session takes place in the comfort of your home. This allows you the luxury of choosing to have a relaxed Lifestyle photo shoot to include the family and/or a calm styled newborn session as the newborn studio is brought to you. The studio to home sessions include preselected background and prop options as discussed during your consultation period.
What accessories and props are available to be used during a newborn session?
I love all the hats, knits and wraps we all love to see on newborns. Many are provided to you and you are welcome to use your own as well. There are many baskets available and the ones used for your session are selected based upon the size of your newborn and the final vision being created. During your consultation, we will discuss the vision of your newborn experience and finalize prop options at that time. Just as with accessories, you are welcome and encouraged to provide your personal items that fit the vision of your newborns first portraits.
Some additional items to have available for consideration would be a personal blanket or quilt, a stuffed animal and sonogram portraits.
How many outfits can my newborn wear?
More than one outfit change is too many for a child during a session. Before a newborn session, you'll want to dress your baby in just a diaper and onesie. It’s best to begin your newborn experience using wraps then making a gradual change to removing the wrap then adding a knit outfit or an outfit of your choosing at the end.
If your newborn takes a pacifier (or if you intend on using one eventually), please have it available.
